Wow...what a show.
that's all I can say. My wife and I had quite an adventure to get to this show in Calgary. On the Tuesday night before the day of the concert, we traveled to Swift Current through the worst snowstorm I've ever seen!! We drove about 50 km per hour on the Trans Canada Highway!!! Visibility was nil, but we made it there in good time.
The Next day, we traveled from Krista's parents house in Swift Current to Calgary. 5 hours, 2 pee breaks, one pull-over (the cop was gracious to me), and a tank of gas later, we were in Calgary.
My wife's one request on this trip was that we go to Peter's Drive-In Restaurant in the city. Peter's was ranked #1 on the best places to eat in Canada a couple of years ago...probably because their small fries were bigger than my pop (and the pop was pretty big!)
Needless to say, we arrived at the University Campus (U of C - where the show was) and stood in a HUGE line.
The Show started with a band called "Copeland". They were really good. Kinda mellow and semi-emo, but really good (they sounded a bit like Keane).
After about a 45 minute switchup, Switchfoot took the stage and rocked the house. IT WAS AMAZING!!! They kicked the concert off with "Stars" and kept it rolling with "Oh! Gravity", "Learning to Breathe" (the song people voted for), "Happy is a Yuppie Word", "American Dream", "Awakening", "Faust, Midas and Myself" and other great tunes, mainly from the "Nothing is Sound" album and their most recent "Oh! Gravity".
When it came time for them to play "Amateur Lovers", Jon Foreman grabbed a cowbell and handed to someone in the audience. The guy (whom I knew from Regina), jumped onstage and jammed with the band playing...the cowbell. And boy, did he ever rock out.
The show was a great one. The final song was "Dare You to Move". Definitely a gooder...probably their most famous (or Only Hope). It was a great show. 11 1/2 stars out of 1. Highly recommended.
